200 dynamic years with a broad view


The history of Tungeln & Cie.´s branch office goes back to the year of 1840, when the businessman Hinrich Gerhard von Tungeln let the building at Schlachte 32 directly on the bank of the River Weser in Bremen. It was the starting point two centuries ago of a trading company which is operating worldwide nowadays. The first ships sailed from here over the oceans to Europe, America and Asia during the first century.



The commercial areas have been systematically extended about a century later. The import and export business with China developed very quickly most of all at that time. Only the two world wars in the 20th century were able to stop the growth briefly. The company remained steadfast despite that. The trade relations with Asia had already been recommenced successively expanded during the 1950s. The company participated in the opportunities and markets that were being newly offered by China when it became open to the world again during the late 1970s. The trade with China (as well as with the whole of South-East Asia and the Near East) has remained a focus of the entire business nowadays.

The success that von Tungeln und Cie. has secured throughout two hundred year can be summarized in three guidelines.

2. Far-sighted entrepreneurial action coupled with the highest flexibility and rapid response.
3. The constant endeavour to adapt know-how and organizational structures to the customer´s wishes and the market´s requirements.
